Equipment

  • 1 sheet pan
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • parchment paper or silicone liner

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar or stevia
  • 1 1/2 tsp cream of tartar
  • 3/4 tsp cornstarch
  • 3/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tbsp vinegar or lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk I use Silk for no added phosphorus

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, cream of tartar, cornstarch, and baking soda. Pour in the olive oil, vinegar, and milk. Stir ingredients together until incorporated.
  • Scoop heaping tablespoon of dough to make 12 even biscuits. Just drop them on the pan.
  • Bake in the oven for 12-16 minutes until lightly browned and cooked through.
  • Remove biscuits from oven and let them cool slightly before serving.

Notes

We use cream of tartar, baking soda, and cornstarch in order to avoid the added phosphorus in baking powder. Baking soda has sodium but the amount that is used in this recipe isn’t going to be very much per serving. We also don’t add any more salt to the recipe because of the sodium content in the baking soda.
